Grand Finale at J Mitchell Gallery

March 20, 2009 – Salt Spring Island, BC For nearly eight years, the J. Mitchell Gallery has represented local Salt Spring artists in unprecedented ways. On March 20, 2009 the gallery will host its final Spring Show. The show boasts over 30 local artists, each with diverse styles ranging from paint to sculpture, and from pottery to jewelry.
Curator and owner, Judy Mitchell says her decision to close has not been easy but has nothing to do with the current economic climate. “The exceptional quality in the works of these local artists meant that the business stayed strong and viable no matter what was happening in the tourism industry and/or the art market generally.” The gallery will close its doors officially on March 31.
The Spring Show/ Grand Finale takes place tonight at 5:30pm. Local artists represented include: sculptors Michael Robb and Gerda Lattey, painter Carol Evans, as well as Ronald Crawford and Karen Reiss. For more information please visit: www.jmitchellgallery.com
