Greenpeace co–founder presents Overshoot and Relocalization

Rex_WeylerEcoReality Sustainable Land Use and  Education Cooperative hosts Rex Weyler, co-founder of Greenpeace  International, when he presents “Overshoot and Relocalization” in the EcoReality classroom at 2172 Fulford–Ganges Road, on Saturday, June 27th, at 7:30 PM. In this presentation, Weyler, who has four decades of peace and ecological activist experience,  examines the state of the planet and what we must do about it. Weyler first gave this talk as the keynote speech at the March 2009 Biosphere conference at McMaster University. He explains concepts such as overshooting the earth’s carrying capacity, links between population, consumption, and damage to the earth’s ability to support all life, and the relationship between energy decline, ecological degradation, and economic collapse. During his forty–year writing career, Weyler penned for publications as diverse as The New York Times, Smithsonian, Rolling Stone, and National Geographic, among many others, receiving a nomination for a Pulitzer Prize in 1982 and receiving the Columbia School of Journalism Award for his story, “Rio Puerto: The Largest Radioactive Spill in US History.”
Thirty–six years after being suspended from Occidental College for protesting the Vietnam War, Weyler and a fellow student organizer were awarded the Alumni Community Action Award by that school, for their lifetime achievements in peace, ecology, and social justice.

Following his visual presentation, Weyler facilitates a discussion on ecology, energy, and global warming in the EcoReality classroom.
Admission is by donation: $5 to $15 suggested.
