Right From The Start Parenting Course

Family Place is offering a “Right From The Start” Parenting Course for parents/caregivers of babies under 2. It is an eight-week course that will guide parents using methods shown to be effective in reducing stress and improving parent-child relationships. Parents work together on solutions to parenting challenges, share ideas and explore the many faces of parenting! Registration is limited. Call to reserve your spot. 10am-12noon, Sept 14th – Nove 2nd, 2010. Childcare provided.

Parent-Child Mother Goose Program

Family Place is running a Parent-Child Mother Goose program for toddlers and preschool aged children, (babes in arms are welcome), beginning Sept 22nd to Nov 24th from 10-11 at Fernwood Elementary school. The Parent-Child Mother Goose program is a group experience for parents and their babies and young children to focus on the pleasure and power of using rhymes, songs, and stories together. After the group there is a healthy snack and play time. Come join us!

At the GISS shop behind the school off Kanaka Rd. (skate park)

How:
Just show up at one of the first classes and we will sign you in.

NOTE: Last year students are welcome back.

Friendship FUNdamentals – Friday Social Thinking Group

We will be running a social thinking group Alternate Fridays from 10:30-1pm beginning October 1st.
This group focuses mainly on children ages 7yrs to 12yrs dx with ASD / PDD-NOS or mood disorders .
We will focus on:
social thinking
anxiety triggers and reducing anxiety
behaviors interfering with friendships
communication/pragmatics
sensory dysfunction
playing by the rules
perception
mindblindness
flexible thinking
social cues
making and keeping friends.

Fee covers speech therapist fee and behavior intervenor fee…supplies etc.

Receipt qualifies for MCFS/CLBC funding(must be paid in cash at beginning of each month).

Only 5 spaces available.Please call for registration package.

RECYCLE HP inket cartridges at GECKO GREEN LIVING

You can now recycle empty HP inkjet printer cartridges for free at Gecko Green Living.

Drop them off at out our new location on McPhillips Avenue (across from Salt Spring Books).

Unfortunately, this is for HP inkjet products only. HP LaserJet & non-HP cartridges cannot be accepted.

We also have a recycling program for alkaline batteries as well as rechargeable batteries from cell phones, laptops, power tools, etc.
